Not available yet
Seed investing is not available yet. These terms apply only once it is offered in the Seed app and you choose to use it. Giving works as it does today and is covered by the Terms for donors.
Who we are
Seed is published by Aura Laboratories LLC and operated by its wholly owned subsidiary, Swyft Payments LLC (“Seed”, “we”). Seed is not a broker-dealer or a bank, and does not hold your money or securities.
Your brokerage account
You open, own and fund your own brokerage account directly with Alpaca Securities LLC, under Alpaca’s own agreements. Alpaca holds your cash and investments. Seed is not affiliated with Alpaca. You add or withdraw money at Alpaca, not through Seed.
What you authorize
When you connect your Alpaca account to Seed through Alpaca’s sign-in, you let Seed read your account information and place purchases in your account at your direction: the investments you choose and the target percentage for each. You can change these, pause, or disconnect at any time in Seed, and you can also remove Seed’s access in your Alpaca account.
How purchases work
Round-ups from the accounts you link add up toward $5. Each time they reach $5, Seed places one purchase of one of your chosen investments, the one furthest below its target share, so your mix moves toward your percentages over time. Seed does not sell to rebalance. Seed places a purchase only when Alpaca reports enough cash in your account; until then the purchase waits. Purchases are dollar-amount orders, which can buy a fraction of a share, at the market price when Alpaca fills them.
No recommendations
Seed does not recommend investments or tell you what to buy. You choose your investments and percentages. Information in the app is not investment, tax or legal advice.
Risk
Investing involves risk, including possible loss of principal. The value of your investments can go down as well as up. Past performance does not guarantee future results.
Fees
Investing may require a Seed subscription. If it does, its price and billing period are shown in the app before you subscribe, and Apple or Google bills it. Seed’s fee on donations does not apply to investing. Alpaca’s own fees, if any, are set by Alpaca.
Giving and investing stay separate
Donation round-ups are never invested, and investment round-ups are never donated. Each has its own authorization and settings.
If the connection stops
Investing depends on Alpaca’s service, which Alpaca may change, suspend or end. If Seed loses access to your account, or Alpaca restricts it, Seed stops placing purchases and tells you in the app. Your account and investments stay with Alpaca.
Your information
Our Privacy Policy explains what Seed receives from Alpaca and from your linked bank accounts, and how it is kept and deleted.
Ending
You can disconnect your Alpaca account or delete your Seed account at any time. Round-ups not yet placed as a purchase are not invested. A purchase already sent to Alpaca completes or is canceled under Alpaca’s rules.
Eligibility
Investing is for U.S. residents who have reached the age of majority where they live and who can open an Alpaca account.
